The Cornerstone Baptist Church is located in the inner-city community of South Dallas. For over 45 years, the church has been committed to touching the lives of residents in this neighborhood by meeting “felt” needs and sharing with them their “real need” -- a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Cornerstone also works in partnership with churches, corporations, and individuals in order to leverage and maximize their people and financial resources in order to “let their light shine before men.”
We invite you to join with us as we serve “the least, the last, and the lost.”
HOMELESS MINISTRY OUTREACH/LUNCHEON
Cornerstone provides lunch for many of the homeless in the downtown area every Tuesday and Thursday. This ministry currently averages about 80 in attendance and continues to grow.
Volunteer to sponsor a meal on Tuesdays. (As individuals provide flowers and gifts “in memory” of a loved one who has passed, we encourage sponsors to provide a lunch time meal in memory of a loved one for the homeless.)
Come and serve the homeless on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 12:30 – 1:30 PM, (Our desire is not simple to “provide” a meal but to serve the homeless who attend. The purpose is to provide a personal-touch of care and concern)
Provide some of the following items: flour, corn meal, coffee, cream, sugar, coffee stirrers, styrofoam cups, plates, bowls, napkins, plastic tableware – forks, spoons, knives, toilet paper and paper towels.

CORNERSTONE KIDS/SUMMER P.L.U.S. But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” – Luke 18:16
Cornerstone KIDS meet each Saturday from 11 AM – 1 PM and is an outreach to children who are in grades K-6th. The ministry consists of Bible study, recreation, fun, and lunch. It has a “backyard Bible school” format. During the summer, Cornerstone provides a summer day camp free of charge to community residents.

PARK MANOR “SENIOR CITIZENS” APARTMENT COMPLEX
This apartment complex is under the management of the Dallas Housing Authority and provides low-income housing for senior citizen. Cornerstone provides lunch on Saturdays and a worship service on Sundays.
Needs: :: Volunteers to provide lunch on either the 1st, 3rd, or 5th Saturdays. :: Music groups that would lead in worship on the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays :: Individuals who are willing to assist in cleaning a needy resident’s apartment :: Individuals to write and send notes of encouragement to “lonely” residents :: Provide a special outreach the Saturday before holidays (i.e. Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas) :: Telephone reassurance ministry to pray for residents.

COMPUTER LITERACY/JOB SEARCHING & TRAINING Cornerstone’s Computer Lab has internet connected computers to train and assist residents in becoming computer literate. Classes are made available daily and on Saturdays.

FOOD PANTRY/CLOTHING CLOSET/TOILETRIES/SUPPLIES

By meeting “felt needs” the church often has an opportunity to share with residents their “real need” – A relationship with Jesus Christ.

PRISON TRANSITION MINISTRY
Cornerstone works in partnership with Trinity Restoration Ministries and provides transitional housing for up to 4 men being paroled back to the Dallas area. All of those who are eligible for this residential ministry must have had contact with us six months prior to their release and be actively involved our outreach Bible studies which is held in various prisons within the State of Texas.
:: Lead various classes (i.e. Bible Study, Substance Abuse, Financial, Parental, etc) :: Be a mentor to encourage and pray with an ex-offender :: Assist in helping men locate jobs for ex-offenders :: Provide bus passes and gift cards to Minyards and Wal-Mart so that perishable food items might be purchased.

JOSEPH MINISTRY (TRANSITIONAL HOUSING FOR YOUNG MEN 18-22 YEARS)
Cornerstone’s Homeless Ministry Center reaches out to young men ages 18-21 years of age who are transitioning out of the foster care systems and would otherwise end up homeless. As we move forward to implement this ministry we would truly appreciate your support.
:: Pray for the newly formed ministry and the house parents :: Provide bus passes and gift cards to Minyards and/Wal-Mart so that perishable food items might be purchased. :: Lead various classes (i.e. Bible Study, Substance Abuse, Financial, Parental, etc) :: Be a mentor to encourage and pray with a young person as he gets his life back on track. :: Assist in helping young people locate jobs. :: Tutor and help with educational pursuits and goals.

CORNERSTONE “Crossroads” ACADEMY Each year South Dallas students are unable to graduate because of their inability to pass the Texas Assessment Knowledge Skill (TAKS). In the summer of 2006, Cornerstone will offer remediation classes that are designed to assist students in passing this test in order that they might graduate from high school.

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
For over 18 years the Cornerstone Baptist Church Troop #919 has provided for boys in the South Dallas community. Under the leader of James Craig who has served as Scout Master, since its inception, the scouting outreach has not only touched the lives of many boys in this inner-city neighborhood but their families as well.
:: Sponsorship to assist boys in their charter fees, camping outings and annual fundraising efforts. :: Adopt a scout and his family to provide encouragement and mentorship. :: Provide unused scouting uniforms and equipment. :: Work in partnership with the troops leaders to maximize their time, energy, effort, and resources.

SEASONAL OUTREACHES
Christmas Store on the web at www.christmasstore.org. In 1999, Valley Ranch Baptist Church in Coppell, Texas hosted the1st annual Christmas Store. This was a yearlong project squeezed into 7 weeks with an ambitious goal of serving 500 children with several Christmas gifts. Without such a program, children would not have experienced a true Christmas. This ministry has since grown to serve 1,200 children in recent years.
Valentine’s Day outreach is geared to reach out by providing “homemade” cards to the homeless outreach, Park Manor apartment complex, and seniors in the community.
Easter Egg Hunt for children in the community. This event will be held in conjunction with lessons to help children understand that just as an egg represents new life that Easter reminds us that we can have a new life in Christ.
Mother’s Day is a very special time for children in the community. With a high percentage of single parent female-headed households it is very special when children are able to provide a special craft or gifts to female care givers.
Father’s Day provides an opportunity for the provide special crafts to express appreciation for fathers.
Back to School Carnival is held each August before the school year begins. Donors are asked to provide age-appropriate school supplies and backpacks to assist children in the South Dallas community.
Thanksgiving Day- Coat and Blanket Drive provides a Thanksgiving meal, coat, and blanket for needy residents. Donors are asked to help serve during the event as well as donate gentle used coats and blankets.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

Southwest Airlines Staff and Leadership Development Team rolled up their sleeves to apply some "elbow grease" to a stately mansion in South Dallas being totally renovated as a part of Cornerstone Community Development Corporation. The 150 Employees painted, planted, cleaned, and moved furniture into the house for occupancy. The Cornerstone CDC has been formed to respond to the needs of residents living in the inner-city communities of Dallas, Texas. With the problems of teenage, violence, drug abuse, homelessness, unemployment and underemployment facing these neighborhoods, their mission is to assist the residents in breaking out of the cycle of poverty and live productive lives as they give back to their community.
Cornerstone Kitchen is a recently purchase 2500 square-foot facility which houses the homeless ministry feeding. We would like to replace the flooring, ceiling tiles, upgrade the kitchen equipment, and install restrooms.
Cornerstone Hospitality House is a 5500 square-foot home that was build and 1930 and renovated several months ago. Although the home is functional, there is a desire to install a game room in the attic and a weight and laundry room in the basement.
Cornerstone Children’s Building is a 3000 square-foot metal building. There is a desire to erect this facility so that the children who must meet down the street from the main worship facility might move closer to the church.
Cornerstone Care Center is an 11 unit apartment complex. There is a need to re-install kitchen floors and replace aging and soiled carpet. Also, a parking lot is needed in order to increase our ability to serve additional “neighbors”.
Cornerstone Park is located on the corner of Grand and Evay Streets. On an annual basis all of the playground equipment must be sanded and re-sealed with Thompson water sealer. This playground provides a safe are for children in the South Dallas community to play without having to remove broken glass.
Cornerstone (Minyards Building) Worship Center – Due to the growth of ministries, the Cornerstone Baptist Church needs to expand worship service capacity to about 500. The old Minyards location is available and once financing is secured, it is hoped that a team of volunteers will be used to renovate the facility.
