“A present help in time of trouble” Ps 46:1

PROVIDING HOPE AND HOUSING
Safe, decent and affordable housing continues to be a challenge in the immediate community surrounding Cornerstone. Apartment complexes are often havens for drug dealing, drug usage, and other illegal activities that continue to destroy the community. Several years ago, the Cornerstone Community Development Corporation decided to begin addressing this continued erosion of housing stock which caused many families to exit the neighborhood. Over 10 years ago, what is now the Cornerstone Care Center was purchased and completely renovated and houses a medical clinic, dental clinic, eyeglass clinic, transitional housing for families, and the women’s prison reentry program. In November of 2010, an additional apartment complex was purchased and the renovation continues today in order to increase capacity to serve men transitioning from incarceration back into the South Dallas community. This summer, with the assistance of an anonymous donor, Cornerstone was able to purchase two additional distressed properties in the immediate community.
The goal of acquiring these properties is to make housing available to families, those in need of assistance as they make the transition back into the community, and make the overall community a safe place to live and raise a family.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Because of the many years of neglect and abuse as the properties were in the hands of “slumlords”, there is extensive renovation and repair work that need to be completed before the properties are habitable according to Cornerstone’s standard of decent housing. If you, your class, organization, or corporation would like to assist in turning the community around and providing hope through housing, we would love to hear from you.
