Summer P.L.U.S. Day Camp
This year Summer P.L.U.S. Day Camp began on June 6th and continued for eight weeks. A dedicated team of summer workers who were funded by First Baptist Church of Richardson/Jerusalem Missionary Project (www.frbc.org), City Square’ AmeriCorps Program (http://citysquare.org/N2TXCorps) and the Tartaglino-Richards Foundation (www.firstpreston.com) not only provided a cool place, daily care, reading enrichment, Bible study, recreation, fun but this year weekly field trips were added to enhance the children’s outlook on life. Thanks so much for the number of volunteers who gave of your time this summer to chaperon, read or be read to, and be a pal to the over 75 children enrolled in the camp at Cornerstone.
We would also like to thank City Square’ Nurture, Knowledge and Nutrition (http://citysquare.org/NKN) that provided a nutritious lunch and snack each day for the program.
Summer Backyard Bible Clubs
Because of limited space at the church’s facility and location, additional clubs were held at recreation centers, on vacant lots, and backyards throughout the community. Mission teams from the Dallas/Fort WorthMetroplex, other areas in Texas, various cities in the United States and Canada served with Cornerstone over the eight week period to take the message of God’s love.
Vacation Bible School
Along with the Summer Day Camp and Bible Clubs throughout the community, the week of July 25th was dedicated to an evening of traditional Vacation Bible School. With over 300 participants enrolled, this year’s VBS was filled with lots of fun as the theme; “Big Apple Adventure” reminded both adults and children how faith and life connect.
Birthday Blessing (www.birthdayblessingtx.com) is a ministry that sponsors birthday parties for deserving children in need to show them that God loves them on their special day! Cornerstone was chosen for the organization’s expansion into the Dallas area.
Birthday Blessing is an all-volunteer Christian outreach ministry that organizes birthday parties for children in need with the hope of making them feel loved and important on their special day. Most children take for granted that they will have a party on their birthday, but the truth is there are many children right here in our community that will not get to have a party to celebrate their birthday. Birthday Blessing partners with local churches and organizations to connect with families in order to bring the love and hope of Jesus to children.

The HELP Program Basketball Camp
For several years, Cornerstone has provided space for the H.E.L.P. Program. This highly structured, community-based program outreach is designed as intermediate intervention focusing on a target population of adjudicated offenders and providing them an alternative to confinement and create a positive change for everyone involved. The program embraces a variety of objectives such as: reducing recidivism, improving academic performance, and embracing the values of self-discipline and hard work. On Saturday, August 6th, the program sponsored its first Basketball Camp for about 35 neighborhood children, teaching how the skills learned in basketball can be play a significant role in success in life. For more information on how you might volunteer in helping in this program, please contact Max Bailey (firstname.lastname@example.org).
